MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
HELD OCTOBER 23, 1968
The meeting started at 7:30 P.M.
Those present were Chairman Walt Petersen, Mr. Arland Siebrecht, Mr. Orvin
Moen, Mr. Don Hallberg, as a spectator, and myself.
Because the Planning Commission lacked a quorum, they could make no formal
recommendations, however, after being briefed as to the Corps of Engineers
intent as to the Vermillion River widening and deepening, they suggested that
I inform the Council that the Planning Commission informally recommends
that the Corps of Engineers go ahead with their proposed project. They also
suggested that I determine what will be required in regard to the beautification
concept plans, if this is more than a verbal request, or if we actually have to
hire a planner to set up the beautification aspect of the project. This is on the
basis that the representative from the Corps of Engineers stated that 10 to 15
percent of the project costs could be added for beautification. They also un-
officially recommended that the spoil be all local:ed just east of the new County
47 bridge in the area of Kaiser's Iunk Yard. The Planning Commission agrees
that the cost of reconstructing a dam would be prohibitive for the benefit received.
Due to lack of quorum, we could not go into the new zoning or sub-division
ordinances. We therefore adjourned early.
The meeting ended at approximately 8:30 P. M.
