What experience would you bring to the C ommission?
I was born and raised in Hastings, MN, and have been involved in the arts within the community starting at a
young age. During my elementary years, I took regular art classes at Studio 61 downtown and Art
Nordstrom's pottery classes in the basement of the studio. My mom brought me to many community art
classes during the summers and I feel those experiences shaped who I am today.
After returning from college and raising a family here, I have enjoyed watching our downtown blossom with
arts and culture. I want the positive changes to continue for my children and all members of the community.
Service Ideas, Inc. (Woodbury, MN)
Marketing Content Manager
I have a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and an Art History Minor from MNSU Mankato. I was
also a member of the Art Club at MNSU. I think my educational background and current marketing
experience would be of value to the commission, especially as it pertains to enhancing public perception of
Hastings' identity.
My background in the arts, and love of music and culture, gives me genuine interest in the overall mission
of an Arts & Culture Commission. And as a long-time resident of Hastings, MN, I can appreciate the rich
history our city has to offer. I feel strongly about supporting our art and music programs for Hastings'
youth.
I would love to be a member of a group of individuals who will continue to beautify our city! Thanks for
your consideration.

I was involved with the Task Force that worked on assessing the need and scope of what the Arts
Commission here in Hastings would look like and its function. As a part of that initial work, there
are several recommendations for advancing the arts here in Hastings that I look forward to
participating in and supporting. I have the unique experience of being an artist as well as a
supporter of other artists here in the Hastings community. The work that we have done at the
Hastings Arts Center these past 8 years in bringing various artists to share their talents here in the
Hastings community is an example of how promoting the arts can enhance both those sharing
their art as well as those who experience it.
I have been involved here in the Hastings community with supporting the arts on several
levels primarily through the work at the Hastings Arts Center and supporting arts
education through the Blessings Academy of Arts and Music. I currently perform
regularly as violinist in the St. Croix Valley Symphony as well as participate in outreach
for music in our schools here at Hastings. I hope to continue the work I began in
collaboration with the other ArtsTask force members to extend the e orts needed to
enhance the presence of the arts here in Hastings.

Advisory Commission Interest Form
Kirk Skeba
How long have you lived in Hastings?
I moved to Hastings more than a year ago from California. I grew up in Red Wing, went to U of
MN and moved to Silicon Valley 36 yrs ago. I moved back to the area because of a sick family
member.
Please share why you are interested in becoming involved with a City commission or task force.
My feeling is that if I am going to live in a community I should give back in a meaningful way.
My overall goal is to help improve the quality of life for all members of the community. I figure
joining city committees at the local government level by is an effective way for me to better
understand and integrate with the city.
Supplemental Information
Employer: Intel Corporation – Santa Clara (Retired)
Occupation: Scientist – I ran the wireless research lab at Intel Corporation for 15 yrs and the Robotics lab
for 5 yrs.
What experience would you bring to the Commission or Task Force?
As head of a research lab, I was successful starting and finishing complex projects. I am comfortable
working with Governments, Universities, Regulatory and Industry partners. I have been an advisor and
board member at several universities including the Dean’s advisory board at the University of Texas
School of Engineering - Austin and the Business Advisory Board at the University of MN – Twin Cities.
After retiring I took a role in the Encore (Retired Executives) program working with Santa Clara County.
My role was to improve their Health and Human services programs, specifically Homelessness and
Domestic Violence. The effort encompassed working with all seven major cities within the county (San
Jose, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountainview, Palo Alto, etc) in collecting data to better understand these
problems, than advising the City Mayors, City Councils and existing shelter and program directors to find
ways to fund and improve their efforts.
I am a lifelong fan of the arts. While my information above does not reflect this passion, I feel I could
contribute to strategy, funding and direction setting. I have submitted many ideas with the Art Council
in the city where I lived in CA, some of which were adopted. I have had many interactions with Lee
Stoffel who is a former member of earlier arts committees and she suggested I continue to apply. I
applied to this committee in the past but was not contacted. I have seen the proposals and past
presentations made to the City Council meetings over the last few years and am certain I can help.
