HPC Action Requested:
Some Commissioners wanted to discuss opportunities for future outreach grants from the
MNHS (Minnesota Historical Society)
Background Information:
The City of Hastings has obtained nearly 30 of these grants in the past for many projects.
Many of the 30 are from training grants for staff and Commissioners to attend classes, and
conferences. A list of some of the projects is below:
- Pioneer Room archivers and projects
- Historic resource studies of properties that appear to have significance, but little is known of
them
- Designation studies
- Small projects, publications, etc. We applied for a few in the fast few years that have been
denied, some Pioneer room projects, Historic district signage.
When Minnesota voters passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment in 2008, the
state legislature created the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, a portion of which was
appropriated to the Minnesota Historical Society for history-related projects around the
state that provide “enduring value for the cause of history and historic preservation.” The
next deadline is April 9, 2021.

Museum Security Survey
HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROJECTS
National Register Property Evaluation
National Register and Local Designation
Historic Preservation Planning
Historic Preservation Survey, Identification, and Evaluation
Historic Properties

Partnership Grants (pre-apps due Jan 24)
Where a pair of applicants must have:
1) an active, vested interest in the program or partnership development
2) contribute in some tangible way to accomplishing the goals
3) have a common mission or purpose, and 4) all will benefit from the grant-funded work.
