HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-19-2019 PSAC Minutes City of Hastings Public Safety Advisory Commission Regular Meeting Agenda September 19, 2019 – 6:30 p.m. Volunteer Room 1)Call to Order – Co-Chair Pemble at 6:31 p.m. 2)Motion by Starkson, Seconded by Rohloff to add items 3d, 4d, and 4e to the agenda – Motion carried – 6-0 3)Welcome/Introductions – Pemble 4)New Business a)Police Department Updates – Chief Schafer i)Hiring Update/Timeline ii)Saunders Resignation iii)Command Vehicle Update iv)Budget Update b)Fire Department Updates – Interim Chief Townsend i)Hiring Update – 4 new paid-on-call firefighters hired ii)New ambulance and admin vehicles have arrived iii)Fire Prevention Week Open House on October 8 th starting at 7:00 pm. iv)Update on new Fire Chief hiring process c)Commission Re-Appointments for 2020 – Three current members of the commission have expressed interest in being re-appointed in 2020. d)School Bus stop arm discussion – The commission requested clarification on the law and definition of a divided highway and roadway “safety zones” relative stop-arm violations. 5)Old Business a)Wellness Discussion – Commissioner Holmes requested information on Health and Wellness programs in the Police and Fire Depts. Chiefs provided an overview of their programs and potential for expanding. The commission would like to play a role in advocating for and improving Health and Wellness. b)Tobacco 21 Public Safety Committee Meeting – October 3, 2019 at 7:30 a.m. – Commissioners welcome to attend. c)NNO Lion’s Park Event- Recap – Went well overall. Brief discussion about food quantities and signage for next year. d)Discuss 2019 Goals carried over from the June Meeting – Motion by Rohloff, seconded by Holmes to approve 2019 Goals – Motion carried 6-0 e)Discuss distribution of Meeting minutes – Recording and distribution of meeting minutes were discussed. 6)Establish/confirm next meeting date(s) – November 21, 2019 and October 10, 2019 7)Adjournment – Pemble at 8:00 pm.
