A. City Hall Masonry restoration with a MNHS capital improvements grant, which should be
finished around Thanksgiving.
B. LeDuc Estate new roof with a MNHS Legacy grant, which should be completed any day
now.
C. The HPC reviewed and provided direction and comments on the City’s 2040 Comprehensive
Plan Preservation Chapter. Chair Amy Martin was a member of the Comprehensive Plan
Steering Committee.
D. Kristy Barse, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau President provided an overview
of the tourism study that was completed last year in partnership with the University of
Minnesota. She explained the benefits of cultural and heritage tourism and what the Tourism
Bureau is currently working on with the Dakota County Historical Society and volunteers.
She explained that the Bureau and LeDuc Mansion often receive calls from people looking
for tours of the historic resources in Hastings. Barse wanted to meet with the HPC to hear of
what efforts have been done in the past and what might work in the future. Past efforts and
X-B-01
future ideas were discussed at several meetings near the end of this fiscal year.
E. The HPC accepted nominations and awarded plaques recognizing exemplary work in historic
preservation to the owners of the following six properties at the May 21, 2018 City Council
meeting:
216 4th Street East –Travis and Sarah Lockwood
705 Vermillion Street – Logan and Ashley Miller
839 5th Street West – Ryan and Sarah Hummel - Mid Century Award - Ca. 1955
724 Ashland Street – Jacquelin McNamara
701 Ramsey Street – John Novak
