May 1, 2016 For your consideration: Girl Scout Troop 53594 of the Hastings/Prescott Service Unit, governed by Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys, would like to
propose the addition of Gaga Pits in no more than 3 of our local parks. Gaga is a rolling dodgeball game that is played inside an octagonal ring. The game requires a softer, bouncy
ball such as a kickball. The game is played at camps, but we feel the game would have considerable popularity with youth in Hastings, particularly adolescents/teens, if the playing
area was staged in an accessible park. It would add to the amenities available to the community and be of interest to visitors in our parks. The parks we have selected as possible
sights are Pleasant Park, Lions Park, and Greten Park or South Pines Park or Cari Park. Chris Jenkins has advised the troop and will continue to do so in regards to potential locations.
The cost to construct a Gaga Pit is approximately $500/pit. The labor would be managed with a combination of the troop’s resources in partnership with Parks and Recreation staff.
The cost of materials can be approached with a few different strategies. Option A – Materials donated through solicitation by troop of local businesses Option B – Shared cost between
troop and P&R, percentage to be determined based on P&R budget allocation Option C – A combination of previous 2 options with shared cost determined after donations assessment The
troop will work with the Hastings/Prescott Service Unit to assist in maintaining the equipment in the future. We would appreciate the opportunity to present our project in person and
answer questions you may have at the May 10 commission meeting. Respectfully, Girl Scout Troop 53594 c/o Shelley Kurzeka-Jung 20585 Rowan Ave Welch MN 55089 gstroop53594@gmail.com
