HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-15-72 Special Mtg 1023 Hastings, Minnesota September 15, 1972 The City Council of the City of Hastings, Minnesota met in a special meetingon Friday, September 15, 1972 at 4:30 o'clock P.M. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, which was called by Mayor Evarist Rotty for the purpose of canvassing the election returns of the Primary Election held on Tuesday, September 12, 1972. Members present: Councilmen Novak, Kane, Hallberg, Wilson Driscoll, and Mayor Rotty. Members absent: Councilmen Collins, O'Connor, and Christenson. r--. Councilman Kane introduced the following resolution and moved ) its adoption: r I i RESOLUTION ON PRIMARY ELECTION The results of the canvass of votes in the several wards of said City for the Primary Election held therein on Tuesday, the 12th day of September, 1972, be and the same are declared to be as follows: MAYOR 1st Ward 84 27 129 172 157 1 1 1 2nd Ward 78 13 202 206 171 4th Ward 118 21 98 113 132 3rd Ward 133 8 153 131 157 1 Lewis E. Councilman Driscoll seconded the motion to adopt said resolution and the same was passed by the following vote: Ayes, all; Nays, none. Moved by Councilman Driscoll, seconded by Councilman Kane that the meeting be adjourned. Ayes, all; Nays, none. AITEST:~ffiltyt:~#:. 5 J;;0~ 0 . Pursuant to Chapter 2, Section 3, of the City Charter, the City Clerk notified the two candidates for the office of Mayor and the two candidates for each Council seat who had recieved the largest number of votes in the Pr~mary Election, that their respective names would appear on the General Election Ballot on November 7, 1972.unless they refused to run. John J. Rowe, the nominated candidate at the Primary Election on September 12, 1972 withdrew and instructed the City Clerk to remove his Kame from the General Election Ballot. The City Clerk then notified Howard J. Nelsen who received the next highest number of votes, and he choose not to have his name on the Ballot. The City Clerk then notified Lewis E. Jaquis, who had received the next highest number of votes, and Mr. Jaquis advised the City Clerk that he wished his name to appear as a candidate for Mayor on the General Ballot for the November 7th Election. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Clerk finds and declares the following shall be the candidates for the office of Mayor at the General Election on November 7, 1972.
