Street – Frank Judge Planning Commission Action Requested: The City Council is asked to review the proposed garage plans in the OHDS (original Hastings design standards) district. Background
Information: The applicant would like to remove a small garage and shed and replace them with a 2 ½ car garage. The home was constructed in 1885 and is zoned R-2 (Medium Density Residential).
It is situated across the street from modern townhomes built in 2004. The structure is proposed to be 30’ wide by 32’ deep (960 Sq Ft) with a 6/12 pitched gable roof, 4” lap vinyl siding,
windows, 16’ overhead door, and a service door. There is no alley access so the garage will utilize the existing driveway onto Ramsey Street. One maple tree has been removed for the
project, which was damaged by a storm in 1996. Since that damage occurred, the tree’s tree’s core has been rotting. The applicant did not want it falling on his house or new garage.
A new tree will be planted between the house and garage. The rear portion of the driveway will be replaced to meet-up with the front of the garage that will be facing the house. The
garage will be situated 5’ from the rear, 12’ from the north and 18’ from the south property lines. Advisory Commission Discussion: The Planning Commission voted to recommend approval

HASTINGS CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO. _____ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HASTINGS GRANTING ORIGINAL HASTINGS DESIGN STANDARDS REVIEW APPROVAL FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
A DETACHED GARAGE AT 817 RAMSEY STREET -FRANK JUDGE Council member ___________________________ introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: WHEREAS, Frank Judge has petitioned
for an application to construct a detached garage at 817 Ramsey Street legally described as follows: Lot 17, Block 4, Henry G Bailly’s Addition, Hastings, Dakota County, MN WHEREAS,
property improvements are subject to City Code Chapter 155.07, Subd. (D) Original Hastings Design Standards; and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Hastings recommended
approval of the request. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HASTINGS AS FOLLOWS: That the City Council concurs with the recommendation of the Planning Commission
and hereby approves the Original Hastings Design Standards Review as presented to the City Council subject to the following conditions: 1) Conformance with the City Council Staff Report
and plans dated November 21th 2011. 2) Approval of a building permit. 3) Approval is subject to a one year Sunset Clause; if significant progress is not made towards construction of
the proposal within one year of City Council approval, the approval is null and void.
Council member _____________________ moved a second to this resolution, and upon being put to a vote it was unanimously adopted by all Council members present. Adopted by the Hastings
