Members Present: Councilmember Johnson, Simaee , Trautmarm H icks , Warner, Riveness and Mayor Werner Members b s e nt: None Staff Members Present: Dave Osberg, City Administrator; Marty McNamara, Parks & Recreation Director; Barb Thompson, City Clerk and Shawn Moynihan, City Attorney Various members of the Hastings SVVD' ming Pool Committee were present, along with Tim Murray from Bonestroo Engineers & Architects. Mayor Verner opened the City Council meeting and introduced Lynn Moratzka, Chair, w ho provided a review of the swi.=ing pool committee activities. The Swimming fool C ommittee recommended to the City Council that the 14th. Street Ponding Basin be established as the site for the location of a Family Aquatic Center. Mayor Werner asked if anyone in the audience wished to speak on the issue, Elizabeth Mesa,ros, 1499 Erickson Drive inquired about access to the area.. leg Harren, Manager of the existing swimming pool stated several parents she has talked to are in favor of the 14th Street Ponding Basin site. Mayor Berner asked if anyone else wished to speak on the issue, and no one wished to do so. Moved by Councilmember H icks, seconded by Couneilnnember Sirnaeek to establish the 14th Street Ponding Basin as the location for the Family ,Aquatic Center, on the 6.2 a cre s currently owned by the City of Hastings. 6 .Ayes; lays, Warner. Mayor Werner asked for a unanimous vote by the City Council indicating fall support for the 14th Street Ponding Basin site for the location of a Family Aquatic Center. 7 Ayes; Nays, None. Mayor Werner called for a 5 minute recess at 730 p.m. Moved by Councilmember Trautmann, seconded by Councilmember Simaeek establishing the general election date of November 8, x.994 as tie a.�te for a. referendum to determine the question of whether the sale of bonds for the construction of the Family Aquatic Center would be authorized. 5 Ayes; Nays, Hicks and Riveness. Moved by Councilmember Hicks, seconded by Councilmember Simacek for a unanimous vote indicating support for the 14th Street Ponding Basin as the site for the Family Aquatic Center and s upport for the November 8 1994 referendum date. 7 Ayes; Nays, lone.
