The City Council of the City of Hastings met in a special City Council meeting on
Tuesday, March 29, 1994 at 7: 00 p.m. in the Great River Community Room in the City Hall, 101
4th Street East, Hastings, Minnesota.
Members Present: Councilmember Johnson, Simacel , Trautinann, Dicks, Waarner,
Riveness and Mayor Verner
Members Absent; None
Staff Members 'resent: Marty McNamara, Parrs & Recreation Director;
and Dave Osberg, City Admi' trator
Also present were various members of the Hastings S va'r
m i ng Pool Committee.
Mayor Mile Werner opened the City Council meeting and asked Jim Maland f o
onestroo Engineers & Architects to review the various criteria that were analyzed as a part of
the initial site selection study.
After review of the complete list of sites that were considered for possible location of a
Family Aquatic Center, Tim Murray from Bonestroo Engineers & Architects reviewed specific
findings identified with the sites as a part of the evaluation process.
Moved by Councilmember Simace , seconded by Councilmember Johnson authorizing
further study to determine the feasibility of locating a Family Aquatic Center at the 14th Street
Ponding Basin site and the private site owned by the hospital located at County Road 42 and
Pleasant Drive. 4 ,Ayes; Nays, Riveness, Warner and Trautmann.
Councilmernbers Riveness and Trautm indicated that f u - th.er consideration should be
given to the veterans Park Athletic Complex site.
Moved by Councilmember Johnson, seconded by Councilmember Simacek to reconsider
the original motion. 7 Ayes; Nay, None.
Moved by Councilmember Trautmann, seconded by Councilmember Riveness to arnend
the original motion to include the Veterans Park Athletic Complex as a site to consider for further
study to determine the feasibility of locating a F mily Aquatic Center; and to direct City Staff
to discuss with Bonestroo Engineers & Architects the necessary modifications to the agreement
that would allow for Ru - ther study of three sites for a. Family Aquatic Center. 7 Ayes; Nays,
None.
Mayor Wenner then called for a vote on the original motion, that would authorize further
study to determine the feasibility of locating a Family Aquatic Centex. at the 14th Street Pondi .g
Basin site; private propel owned by the Hospital located at County Road 42 and Pleasant Drive;
and the veterans Parr Athletic Complex; and to direct City Staff to discuss with Bonestroo
F n ine r s & Architects modifications in the agreement that would allow for the furth study
of three sites for a Family Aquatic Center. 7 Ayes; Nays, lone.
Moved by Councilmember Trautmann, seconded by Councilmember Simacek to adjourn
the meeting at 8:15 p.m. 7 Ayes; lays, Done.
