The City Council of the City of Hastings met in a Special City Council meeting on
Wednesday March 9, 1994 at :00 p.m. in the City Mall Council Chambers, 101 4th Street
East, Hastings, lriinnesta.
Members Present: Councflmembers Warner, Simace , Ri enness, Johnson,
Trautmann, Hicks and Mayor Werner
Members Absent: None.
Staff Members Presents City Administrator Osberg and M" McNamara,
'ark and Recreation Director
Mayor Mike Werner opened the Speciality Council Meeting for purposes of
discussing the planning process for a Family Aquatic Center in the City of Hastings. Mayor
Werner introduced Park & Recreation Director Marty McNamara.
Mayor Werner left the meting at 7:07 p.m.
Park & Recreation Director Marty McNaunara introduced members of the S wimmi ng
Pool Co nux ttee appointed by the City Council. Park & Recreation Director Marty
McNamara also introduced Jim Maland from the engineering and architectural firm of
onestroo, Roene, Anderlik & Associates.
Mr. Maland introduced members of the design planning team including
Mr. Carl Fuerst from Leisure Concepts & Design; Tim Murray, Pool Engineer from
onestroo; Bill Arndt, a financial consultant on pool planing projects.
Mr. Maland proceeded to discuss various issues associated with the existing city pool,
and decisions that have taken place over the last several years resulting in the need for a
planning process for a Famffy Aquatic Center in the City of Hastings.
Mr, Fuerst provided a slue presentation regarding the various concepts and trends
in Family Aquatic Center design and recreational opportunities.
At the conclusion of the slide presentation, Mr. Maland facilitated questions and
answers and dialogue between the pity Council, fool Committee and design. planning team
regarding the Family Aquatic Center concept.
Mr. Fuerst distributed a survey on the various issues associated with the design
options of a Family Aquatic Center,,
Cit Councilrneinber haul Hicks left the meeting at 8:43 p.m.
City Councilrnember Dent Warner left the meeting at 5:44 p.m.
Moved by CouncHmember Simacek, seconded by Councilm rub r Ri eness to adjourn
the meeting at 8:45 p.m.
