Item: Continuation of Insurance Benefits
Council Action Requested:
It is recommended the City Council take action approving a continuation of insurance benefits at
the Full Time employment levels for Carol Latham, despite the change in her employment status
effective February 1, 2011, from Full Time employment, to Part Time Employment.
Background Information:
As a result of budget reduction measures in 2011, one position was reduced from Full Time status
(40 hours per week) to Part Time status; (less than 40 hours, but at least 10 hours per week). The
City's Personnel Policy defines that Full Time employees are eligible for all insurance benefits,
while Part Time employees are eligible for certain insurance benefits. This action is being
recommended for this specific reduction in hours, and does not change the City's policy for
providing insurance eligibility for any other Part Time status employees.
Financial Impact:
The Financial impact is reflected in the 2011 Budget, as there was no consideration of a change in
the insurance eligbilty status. Thus, continuation of the insurance eligibility has no impact on the
2011 Budget.
Advisory Commission Discussion:
None.
Council Committee Discussion:
During the course of 2011 budget discussions, members of the Finance Committee were
supportive, in concept, of this continuation of insurance benefits.
