HomeMy WebLinkAbout20110103 - VI-02 City Council Memorandum To: Mayor Hicks & City Councilmembers From: Melanie Mesko Lee Date: December 29, 2010 Item: Designation of Official Newspaper and authorizing alternative means of dissemination–2011 Council Action Requested: Approve the attached Resolution designating the Hastings Star Gazette as the official City newspaper for the year 2011, and authorizing the City’s website to be used as an alternative means for dissemination for bids and requests for proposals. Background Information: Annually, the City must designate an official newspaper. The Hastings Star Gazette has served in that capacity for many years and staff recommends the same designation for 2011. Additionally, cities are permitted to authorize their website as an alternative means for dissemination for bids and requests for proposals. The City has authorized this means of dissemination for the last few years. Advertisements for bids will continue to be placed in the Construction Bulletin, and official notices will continue to be published in the Star Gazette. Financial Impact: Anticipated publication costs are budgeted for annually. Advisory Commission Discussion: N/A Council Committee Discussion: N/A Attachments:  Resolution CITY OF HASTINGS COUNTY OF DAKOTA, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 01-___-11 RESOLUTION DESIGNATING OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER WHEREAS , it is necessary for the Hastings City Council to annually designate a newspaper of local general circulation as the official legal newspaper for the City; and WHEREAS, the Hastings Star Gazette has previously been so designated; and WHEREAS, the Hastings Star Gazette meets all necessary requirements for designation; then NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Hastings Star Gazette is hereby designated as the official newspaper for the City of Hastings for the year 2011.
