From: Paul P. Schnell, Chief of Police
Date: December 29, 2010
Item: Crime Prevention Budget Adjustment Request
Council Action Requested:
Approval of request to transfer $1,200.00 from the Hastings Police Department Crime Prevention
Fund to the 2011 budget for Expert and Consultant services.
Background Information:
The Hastings Police Department has an established Crime Prevention Fund that can be utilized
for a wide array of crime prevention activites. As part of the department's crime prevention plan
and efforts to more fully engage members of the community, plans are being finalized to offer
public access to police call for service and proactive activity mapping. The crime mapping
application would be publically available via the City website. The cost to the department is
$99.00 per month. On a daily basis, the Hastings Police Department will automatically upload
public call for data to a mapping provider, who will geo plot the calls on City map and provide
the link for the Ciy website. The mapping application provides a broad range of call for service
data, including: suspicious activity, theft, motor vehicle accidents, traffic stops, disturbances, etc.
Financial Impact:
The annual subscription cost is $1,188, with the cost covered by the department's Crime
Prevention Fund.
