HomeMy WebLinkAboutNRRCMinutes-20010116 Natural Resource & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes January 16th, 2001 Members present: Dennis O'melia, Dennis McNamara, Mike Brown, Tim McInnis, Harold Christianson Election of Officers: Dennis O'melia elected chairman, Dennis McNamara elected vice chair, Secretary will be elected at a latter meeting. Vacancy: Terry Sieben elected unanimously to fill the vacancy of Lance Twedt. Will be forwarded to the council at their next meeting scheduled for February 5, 2001.Motion D. Mac, second D.O'melia. Featherstone Ridge: voted unanimously to support the proposal for the developers of Featherstone Ridge ( Matt Christianson, John Langenfeld) to pay for the cost of light poles and their installation along the trail of their townhouse development. The developer will also pay the cost for benches. The city parks department will install the benches along the trail. Kevin Smith city forester will work with Dakota Electric the supplier of power for the development to see if they would be interested in donating trees along the trail. The parks department would install and maintain the trees. In the past Dakota Electric has donated trees as part of Arbor Day. Parks staff would install a plaque on one of the poles recognizing this donation. Comments submitted by the Fire Chief will be incorporated into the plantings and installation of the benches. Motion H. Christianson, M. Brown Skateboard Park: Voted unanimously to recommend the site north/east of the water tower off industrial boulevard in the industrial park for a skateboard park. The number one priority would be the construction of a outdoor facility with a indoor facility added as funds become available. Recommend that the city contribute a minim of $50,000 of new money plus approximatly 2 acres of land. Recommend that the NRRC have the option to review current and future park dedication funds to be utilized for the skateboard park. The users of the facility would fundraise to help offset the development costs. Motion D. Mac, Second T. McInnis. NRRC Meeting Schedule: Tuesdays at 7:00pm February & March; after March commission will meet on the third Wednesdays at 7:00pm.
