Schnell, Chief of Police Date: October 13, 2010 Item: Budget Adjustment - DWI Enforcement/Equipment Funds Council Action Requested: Authorize budget adjustment from DWI Enforcement/Equipment Fund to offset costs of installation of fund purchased squad car video cameras and purchase of digital video server allowing for the collection, storage, and catologing of squad car video frequently utilized in DWI enforcement and prosecution. Background Information: The Hastings Police Department has an established DWI Enforcement/Equipment Fund that is to be utilized to support the department's effort around impaired driver enforcement. The fund results from DWI-related forfeitures. Earlier in 2010, the department used some of these funds to acquire digital squad-mount cameras, which have been shown to greatly assit in the prosecution of DWI cases. Those cameras have now been acquired and a budget adjustment is requestedto move $5,700.00 from the DUI Enforcement/Equipment Fund balance to operating accounts as noted below: $1,700.00 to police operating budget for installation of new digital squad cameras $4,000 to IT capital account for acquistion of a new video server to manage squad video data Financial Impact: This request is budget netural as the transfer is from funds statuatorily required for use to aid in the detection and prosecution of DWI enforcement.
