HomeMy WebLinkAbout20100907 - VI-04 City Council Memorandum To: Mayor Hicks & City Councilmembers From: Paul Schnell, Chief of Police Date: August 25, 2010 Item: Declare Excess Property and Authorize Budget Adjustment Council Action Requested: Authorize budget adjustment as described below and designate unmarked squad car to be replaced as surplus property. Background Information: The department seeks to replace a 2001 Chevrolet Impala with nearly 90,000 miles that is in need of approximately $3,100 in immediate mechanical repairs. The unmarked squad car would be replaced with a 2007 Chevy Impala with 35,000 miles that can be purchased from the Minnesota State Fleet and Surplus Services for $9,375, plus taxes, fees and transfer of equipment. Pursuant to previous Council authorized budget adjustments, the police department has a postive balance of $6,800 available for squad (vehicle) replacement. Also, City Attorney Fluegel is finalizing negotiations regarding a DWI vehicle forfeiture that is expected to result in a $6,000 settlement. In addition, with your designation of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala as surplus property, it too can be sold for an estimated $1,500. The combination of this these finding sources totals $14,300. Financial Impact: The total replacement cost of the unmarked squad car will be $11,345. With this Council action, the Police Department budget has $14,300 of funds available. Action will reduce need for near-term vehicle replacement request and will be within Council approved budget. Advisory Commission Discussion: N/A Council Committee Discussion: N/A Attachments: N/A
