HomeMy WebLinkAbout20100802 - VI-03 MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Nick Egger – City Engineer Date: July 26, 2010 Re: Change Order #2 for 2010 Infrastructure Improvements It was determined during the design phase of the 2010 Infrastructure Improvements project that adding asphalt emulsion to the remaining reclaimed (ground up pavement) material would be necessary on Westview Drive south of Highway 55. Adding the emulsion is necessary because the amount of existing blacktop material on this section of Westview Drive was not high enough to provide adequate structural capacity after being ground in with the underlying gravel. In order to overcome this deficiency, asphalt emulsion oil is mixed together with the reclaimed material. Although an estimate of the amount of asphalt emulsion oil needed was accounted for in the original project plans and specifications, the party responsible for the work of field sampling and laboratory testing to create a mixture design was not indicated, and therefore not accounted for in the unit prices. This change order specifies that the Contractor will provide the mixture design work, and creates a new unit item to compensate the contractor for providing a mixture design for the asphalt injection process that will be performed on the reclaimed (ground up) pavement material on Westview Drive south of Highway 55. Enclosed for Council approval is Change Order #2. Thus far, the estimated total impact of change orders on this project amount to a reduction of $32,415.50, or about 1.69% of the total contract value. 2010 Infrastructure Improvements Change Order Summary Change OrderDate Items Estimated Value 1 6/11/2010 Substitution of Reclaimed Material for New Gravel -$39,120.00 2 7/26/2010 Mixture Design for Asphalt Emulsion $6,704.50 Net Total Increase-$32,415.50 Original Contract Value$1,915,445.39 Change Orders as Percentage of Contract Value-1.69% úÔÉÄÎ×õÜÊÉÔÏÖÊ øÏÖÔÏØØËÔÏÖùØÍÜËÉÐØÏÉ úÕÜÏÖØîËÙØË Contractor: Hardrives, Inc.
