HomeMy WebLinkAbout20100621 - VI-09MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Nick Egger — City Engineer Date: June 11, 2010 Re: Change Order #I for 2010 Infrastructure Improvements Enclosed for Council approval is Change Order #1. This change order makes adjustments to unit prices for an existing bid item and also adds a new work item to the contract. City staff and the Contractor have agreed to substitute some of the reclaimed (ground up) pavement for new base material that was originally prescribed to be placed on the streets receiving more substantial reconstruction (Westview Drive north of North Frontage Road, Lyn Way south of Bahls Drive, Pleasant Drive between 12 Street and Highway 55). The use of this material presents no concerns for the design, as it is the exact method that is being used in most places on the project. The only difference in procedure in this case is that the excess material taken off of the streets receiving the full -depth recycling (grinding) will be hauled to the streets mentioned above, spread out and compacted just a new gravel. An amount of new gravel material has been left in the contract in the event that some needs to be used, but the quantity has been drastically reduced. If logistics and phasing allow for the full implementation of this method, it would result in a reduction to the original contract value of approximately $40,000.
