HomeMy WebLinkAbout20100405 - VI-11MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: John Caven Date: March 25, 2010 Re: Authorize Solicitation of Quotes for 2010 Cul-de-sac Program and 2010 Crack Seal Program Council is requested to aLrthorize solicitation of quotes for the 2010 Cul-de-sac Program and 2010 Crack Seal Program. Similar to the Seal Coat Program, the Cul-de-sac Program extends the pavement life by rejuvenating the roadway surface. By contrast to applying oil and rock, the Cul-de-sac Program is a single coat, fiber reinforced, polymer modified liquid asphalt resurfacing product. It provides a rich black appearance while eliminating the persistent loose rock that often occurs on seal coat projects within cul-de-sacs due to heavy turning movements (ie. Garbage tricks, delivery tricks, careless driving etc). Ten (10) cul-de-sacs are proposed to be sealed in the 2010 program. Crack Sealing is also a necessary pavement management practice that prevents water from seeping through cracks and undermining the roadway and creating potholes. The 2010 Crack Seal Program consists of routing and filling pavement cracks with a hot ribber crack sealer to approximately 8.31 miles of residential streets, or $15,000.00 maximum, whichever comes first. - ~ r~ ~r[°Y ~~ x~s~ru~e~
