HomeMy WebLinkAbout19860531 Charter MinutesCHARTF..R COTir4ISSTON N:INI3TE5 May 31, 1986 Present: Earl Beltz, Charles Caturia, Dick Dobrick, Judith Gilbert, Wint Hartman, Jeanne McGree Absent: Michael Hovgaard, Janice Johnson The meeting was called to order b~~ Chairperson Caturia at 9:40 a. m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, Dick Dobrick reported that he had discussed contributions with representatives of the Internal Revenue Service and the Minnesota Department of Revenue, and was told that contributions to the Charter Commission to be used for public purposes bbl the Commission (including an advertisement explaining the proposed charter changes} would be tax deductible on both Federal and state income tax returns. He also reported receiving contributions of X200 so far. Dick Dobrick will follow up with Gary Brown ar Dianne Latuff regarding avail- ability of absentee ballots and the publishing by the Citg of the full taxi of the proposed changes. Speeches explaining the proposed charter changes will be made as follows: Lions: June 12 Earl Beltz Kiwanis: Noon June 17 Earl Beltz E'3rening " 17 Chuck Caturia Toastmasters " 18 Dick Dobrick Ministerial Association Earl Be1tz Commission members are asked to try to secure items in their respective church bulletins announcing the special election. Each Corr~*nission member is urged to discuss the proposed changes with their friends and attempt to obtain commitments to vote for the changes from 50 persons apiece. Reports to be made at the next meeting, June '12th, of the ntamber of commitments obtained. Jeanne McGree will contact KDWA regarding discussion of the proposed charter changes on their morninp_ radio news programs. Wint Hartman will contact Keith Horsch regarding an advertisement in the Hastings Star-Gazette and the Trade Winds.
