The meeting was called to order at 7:44 p.m. by Chairman Chuck Caturia. 2. The chairman greeted and introduced the 2 Commissioner-designates, Mike Hovgaard and Marie Boldon. They will be sworn in at our next commissioner meeting. 3. The Minutes of October 16th, 19$4 were approved as mailed. Motion Dick Dobrick Second Earl.Beltz 4. CHARTER DISCIISSION Members of the Charter Commission discussed the items that need to be ad- dressed by the Commission; a work plan with timelines and accountability needs to be established; and a Commission Speaker's Bureau would be ini- tiated for the purpose of meeting with various civic groups and community organizations to explain any proposed changes. The following issues were identified by the commission: a. Number of Wards within the city; b. Number of Representatives/Ward; c. Length of term for Mayoral Office; d. Voting rights/veto power. of Mayoral position; e. Changes in Mayoral responsibilities; f. Delineation of administration/council responsibilities. Chairman Chuck Caturia suggested that the Charter Commission, at its next meeting, review and analyze the Charter, page by page. Where questions or concerns were identified, the Commission would invite appropriate city off icials (e.g. city attorney, city administrator, mayor, etc.) appear - before the Commission to explain or clarify the intent of the Charter. The __ Commission agreed to proceed in this direction, and established our next meeting as a work session to review and analyze the City Charter document. There was additional discussion regarding the role and responsibilities of the Charter Commission raised by Mike Hovgaard, Commssioner designate. Other issues which the Commission needs to address include: a. Primary Elections b. Wiring of funds C. Canvassing of ballots 5. Next Meeting: Thursday, January 10 7:30 p.m. Council Chambers 6.
