Re: Outdoor Music Request—HFAC
Date: March 10, 2010
Council Action Requested
:
Approve outdoor music after 10:00 p.m. at the Hastings Family Aquatic Center for four dates in
2010. The request is for outdoor music until 10:30 p.m. on June 18, July 30, August 13 (all dates
are Friday) and until 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010.
Background Information
:
The City Council recently adopted a policy to guide requests for playing music outdoors by
establishments. Music that ends before 10 p.m. is permitted and requires no licensing by the City.
Outdoor music after 10 needs to be licensed by the City.
As indicated in the attached memo from HFAC Manager Darbie Johnson, there are four dates the
HFAC would like a license to play music outside. June 18, July 30, August 13 requests are for
outdoor music until 10:30 p.m.; Teen night during Rivertown Days on July 15 is requested to
have outdoor music until 11:00 p.m.
HPD Review:
The HFAC has held these events the last several years. According to the Police Department,
there have been no formal complaints filed regarding outdoor music at these locations the last few
years. Staff is not aware of any complaints received.
