' i = _ I K~ ~# + *~ ~F~i''''~'J 'L~ 3- ^~; ~ iz'~ R*~.~c ? ~ ~ 7 ~ ~ F 7 - J _ -i ~ ' - 3 F~ ~ - J - - _ y ... 1 _ ~ - - F i _ - k - _ rtt ~~ Imo` ~~~I~ ~`~ ~~ ~`~`Il~ In Appreciation of Hastings Veterans and Families ofthe 34th "Red Qull"infantry Division ForTheir Service in Iraq, 1Neleome Home WHEREAS, it was an emotional day of goodbyes in February 2009 for approximately twenty Citizen Soldiers, representing Hastings, who were off to Washington and than Iraq fora 12-month deployment; and WHEREAS, for more than 1,200 Citizen Soldiers, representing 273 Minnesota Communities and 14 states it may be their first, second, and maybe third deployment with the Red Bulls; and 1NHEREAS, Since May 2009, the 34th Infantry Division provided command and control of military forces in the southern third of Iraq. Headquartered at Contingency Operating Base Basra, the 34th Infantry Division led a force of approximately 14,000 U.S. service members throughout nine of Iraq's 1 S provinces; and WHEREAS, the 34th fnfantry Division's notable accomplishments include ensuring Iraq Seeurify Forces could protect their population and borders in southern Iraq, developing Southern Iraq`s civil capacity and economic security; and setting conditions for a successful drawdown of U.S. forces in their area of responsibility; and WHEREAS, the soldiers left behind family, friends, careers and educational plans, and a tough time of separation and trying to balance duty to country and the needs of family. 111/HEREAS, they are thanked for a job well done, a successful mission, and their service & sacrifice.
