Mayor Paul Hicks
Hastings Police Commissioners Judy Gilbert, Jae Drexler, Terry Sieben
City of Hastings
Hastings, MN, 55033
Dear Mayor Hicks and Police Commissioners,
In January of 1980 at 23 years of age, I began my career as a Police Officer in a small
commu~~ity in southern Minnesota. In May of 19$0 I was offered a job with the City of
Hastings Police department, which my wife and I gladly accepted. As the only Officer
under the age of 30 on the Hastings Police department at that time, I had the good fortune
of having many experienced Officers to learn from and develop my abilities. Throughout
the past 30 years with this department, I have had the privilege of learning and
experiencing the many different aspects of what a law enforcement career offers, I have
worked in the Patrol division, Investigative/duvenile division, and finally the
administrative and supervisory role of managing a Police department.
Thirty years in the law enforcement field is different than most careers due to the nature
of the job and stresses a Police Officer encounters. The State of Minnesota has a separate
retirezx~ent pension program in which Police Officer and Fire Fighters can retire and begin
to receive their pension after the age of 50, Having now completed 30 years of work in
my career I will be retiring and leaving my position as a Hastings Police Officer and City
of Hastings employee effective May 315`, 2010.
My wife Tarmny and I throughout the past 30 years have felt truly blessed to have
become part of this great community and raised our children in a community rich with
history, traditional values and a wonderful educational system. In zny final four months
of work in Hastings I will be hard pressed to adequately put into words my appreciation
and gratitude I have for the community of Hastings, the fi-iends and memories that we
have made throughout the years. I offer my heartfelt THANKS to the many dedicated
former and cuiYent Officers, staff members of this department as well as the other City of
Hastings departments, who all strive to provide a great level of service to the community
and citizens of Hastings.
My wife and I look forward to remaining citizens of the Hastings community as we begin
the new "retirement" stage ofour life. Thank You.
ike McMenomy, Chief
Hastings Police Department
