Background Information: Over the last several weeks, staff members have become more familiar with the communication opportunities a City Facebook page will offer and staff is prepared and recommends approval to publish the City’s Facebook page. If approved, the page will go “live” as soon as possible. There are numerous opportunities for the City to share information and events with the public through our Facebook page, and this medium will be used as one additional tool in our communication efforts with the public, including the ability for our “fans” to comment on City posts. The attached comment policy provides some context for users to understand under which circumstances posts will be removed. Facebook Posting Policy The City of Hastings makes use of a variety of forms of media to communicate to the public in an accurate, timely and open manner. To that end, the City of Hastings has a Facebook page as one way to provide two-way communication. The City welcomes participation and feedback from the public on this site. Once posted, the City reserves the right to delete comments that: ? Contain vulgar language ? Are personal attacks of any kind ? Are offensive ? Are prejudiced or hurtful remarks made toward any person or entity, including an ethnic, racial or religious group ? Are spam ? Include sales/promotion of goods or services, or links to other sites ? Are off-topic ? Advocate illegal activity ? Promote services, products or political organizations ?
