A little history on the Hastings Crime Prevention Fund, this group started in the late 1970’s and consisted of many Hastings businesses joined together in establishing a fund to be utilized by the businesses and police department in various crime prevention items and aspects. Throughout the years we were able to approach the Crime Prevention Board and draw money to buy various crime prevention related equipment such as portable alarm units, portable breath testing units and also reward money to go to citizens who provided information to us that lead to the arrest of individuals for various serious criminal offences. This Hastings Crime Prevention fund was a licensed corporation with the State of Minnesota and the decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Crime Prevention Committee that they would like to dissolve the corporation. Hastings Attorney Harvey Jones worked with the Crime Prevention Committee as well as this department and City Attorney Dan Fluegel in getting the necessary items together to dissolve the corporation. The monies that the Crime Prevention Committee had gathered throughout the years had been in Vermillion State Bank in CD’s (Certificates of Deposit). As part of the dissolution of the corporation these funds had to be distributed. The Crime Prevention Board designated that these funds would be donated to the Hastings Police Department crime prevention programs to be used in the same capacity that they were meant for crime prevention work by the Hastings Police Department and the community of Hastings. As a donation resolution documents the total amount of money that was in this account is $12172.60. If you have any questions concerning this information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
