HomeMy WebLinkAbout20090908 - VI-10 To: Mayor Hicks and City Councilmembers From: Shannon Rausch Date: September 8, 2009 Re: Approval of 2009 Wellness Grant Application Recommended City Council Action: Approval of the 2009 health and wellness promotions project budget through the South Central Service Cooperative to be used for this fall’s Employee Benefits Fair Background Information: The City belongs to the South Central Service Cooperative from which we purchase our health insurance. The co-op also offers wellness and health promotion grant dollars. In the last three years, the City has leveraged these funds to offer CPR courses, conduct employee training, purchase CPR masks, water bottles, mini first aid kits, and bags for staff. Participating organizations’ elected bodies are encouraged to support these initiatives. This year, the City has established an Employee Benefits Fair Task Force to make our annual open enrollment period more relevant and energizing to employees. The proposed theme will be “Under The Big Top; Be the Ring Master of Your Benefits”, and the task force recommends the grant dollars be used for small hand sanitizers on a clip, lip balm with SPF, and a mini flashlight tool kit. During the Fair, a carnival/circus will be set up where employees can play games and be entered to win more substantial prizes. These prizes would include five coffee tumblers, five lunch cooler bags, and five umbrellas. If you have any questions, please let me know.
