HomeMy WebLinkAbout20070102 - VI-20VI-20 MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: John Caven Date: December 20, 2006 Re: Sewer Service Repair Assessment Request - 319 17th Street Enclosed for Council Approval is a request from Scott Thom of 3I9 17th Street for the City to pay the cost to repair his sanitary sewer service line and assess this cost back to his property. With similar requests for utility service repair, the City Attorney has prepared an agreement and waiver of assessment appeal for property owners to sign, spelling out the conditions and terms of the assessment and protecting the City from an assessment appeal. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Council is requested to approve Mr. Thom's request for the City to fund the sewer service repair and assess this cost back to their property. December 19,2006 To whom it may concern, We are requesting a special assessment added to our properly taxes for the cost of emergency work done on our sewer line. As of December 19, 2006 we had sewer backing up into our home. Since this situation could not be delayed we were forced to have it taken care of immediately. Emergency repairs were started on December 20, 2006 by Otto Excavating, Inc. of Hastings in which a, 10 foot by 10 foot area 8 to 10 feet deep was required to be removed in the middle of Ashland street where our sewer line is connected to the city main sewer line. Due to the cost of the work, which could be $2,000 to $4,000, this would be a big financial hardship for us at this time. Scott is in a seasonal job where work is slow in the winter months, and we are a family of five. We are aware that this amount would need to be paid back within a reasonable amount of time.
