HomeMy WebLinkAbout20070102 - VI-16Memo ~I.16
To: Mayor Hicks and City Council
From: John Hinzman, Planning Director
Date: January 2, 2007
Subject: Comprehensive Plan Commission Formation
REQUEST
The City Council is asked to consider formation of a Comprehensive Plan Commission to
oversee the development of the City's 2030 Comprehensive Plan. The Commission would
likely meet 1-2 times per month throughout 2007-2008.
Staff suggests the following Commission formation:
Existing City Commissions (5 members) -One representative from each of the
following Commissions:
• Planning Commission
• Economic Development Commission
• Natural Resources and Recreation Commission
• Heritage Preservation Commission
• City Council Liaison
Mayor and City Council Appointments (14 members) -The Mayor and City Council
would each select two members to serve on the Commission.
With nearly 20 members this would be a large Commission; however it's important to
have a strong base of people involved from the very beginning of the plan. It's not
unusual to have fluctuating participation among the membership, and it would be
difficult to bring additional people on mid stream.
ACTION
Acknowledge the formation of the Comprehensive Plan Commission as presented
above, and submit candidates for appointment at the January 16~' City Council Meeting.
