Margare# G.: Reporting on the Historic Houses Tour which will be held
Saturday, May 5th: The tour will run from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.. A map will be
provided so people can provide their own transportation from site to site. The
$20.00 fee also inGudes a tour of the LeDuc House and City Hall (former Dakota
County Courthouse). The following buildings are included in the tour:
Bob & Heidi Langenfeld House, 500 West Second Street. Included as an
example of new/old construction .

Possibly two more residences
Margaret will be meeting with Jane Lightbourne of the Star Gazette to encourage
them to do articles highlighting a house a week for some publicity prior to the
house tours. The History Center and the Preservation Alliance will be doing one
page publicity announcements also.
Dick D.: Dakota County Historical Society (DCHS) is working on the Sesq book
which will be coming out in March 2007.
Note from Cindy Smith: Called Rebecca Snyder at DCHS to check on status of
the book. They are taking two bids: 64 pages or 80 pages, which would make it
one fat volume or a 2 volume set. if the 80-page bid is chosen, some of the extra
stories Dick has submitted in Part III may be used. Whichever bid DCHS takes
the resulting book(s) will be mailed out to all members of DCHS (approximately
800 members). HPC will be ordering several hundred copies to keep for future
sales (for sale in the Pioneer Room, at the sesq. booth during Rivertown Days
and at special events such as the Alumni Banquet).
Dick also mentioned the East Hastings Association has offered the Sesq Comm
a free booth/table during their Community Fourth of July picnic.
Shirley D.: Still working on Civil War research.
Pat H.: Pointed ou# error in Sesq. brochure, the Civil War Weekend is Sept. 8
not Sept. 23. Extra publicity will need to be done nearer to the date so people
don't show up on the wrong weekend. Suggestions: a banner sign on the front
fence on Vermillion Street.
Another suggestion was made: print 2 more banners at the same time and put
one on Highway 55, on library property {need to contact them for permission) and
another on Highway 61/316 by Welcome to Hastings sign.
Mary M.: Brought up the point we may need to recruit volunteers for the
upcoming Sesq. events.
A quick check shows that most of the events have organizing groups already so
Sesq. Comm would not have to solicit volunteers except possibly for the Sesq.
Booth at the 4th of July picnic and during Rivertown Days.
Cindy T-S: "150 Faces of Hastings" photo display is going up in the hallway
outside the Pioneer Room. Two family history boards have been turned in and
are on display in the Rotunda.
The second batch of historical photos, covering the time period 1907-1957 have
been turned over to Donna Girgen for her to reproduce for displays in the
elementary schools. Getting good feedback on the photo displays depicting the
first 50 years of the town of Hastings.
Shannon R.: Shannon has been approached by the St. Paul Pioneer Press
about a tabloid inclusion to their paper on the Hastings Sesquicentennial. For a
little over $2300 we will get 6-8 pages where we control the content, SPPP
solicits advertising for the remaining pages. Of especial interest is the full color
back page to the tabloid wherein we could really promote Hastings. This special
interest tabloid would be folded in with the paper for mailing to subscribers and
we can choose what zip codes the tabloid gets included in (for instance we can
blanket the area around Hastings where we are more likely to get people hopping
into their cars to come rather than sending it to N. St. Paul). Suggestions were
made to promote the Aquatic Center and the encircling hiking/biking trail we have
around Hastings. Shannon has volunteered to approach certain City Depts (such
as Parks) to get some funds from them since the Sesq. Comm doesn't have
enough money to fund this completely. There was a unanimous vote that we
should take advantage of this opportunity! Six to eight weeks lead time is
required, if we want it out in April we need to work on the content in Feb-March.
General Discussion on Upcoming Events:
1. Sesquicentennial HAND FANS: Cindy and Shannon will work on several
designs for the hand fans and present them at the next meeting. Proposed
design is two sided: one side graphics the other sign written, including Sesq
calendar events. Two sides makes the fans sturdier so they can actually be used
as fans....remember Rivertown Days last year? 95 degrees at least.
2. March Incorporation Month Ceremony: Burial of time capsule and its contents
is still being worked on. Cindy will check weather reports to find out when it will
4 .
' a get dark on March 19th so we can schedule the burial of the capsule while it's still
light out (good photo opportunity). A full sheet cake with an image of the Dakota
County Courthouse on i# has been ordered from Emily's Bakery. Cindy has also
ordered a small amount of personalized MnMs for the cake/coffee event (they
turned out to be too expensive to order for possible resale).
3. November Artists at the LeDuc event: Cindy Smith and Joan Mathiesen will
be working on this project. Need to get invitation letters out to the artists by
February. Cindy will compile a list and a rough draft of an invitation letter.
Preliminary list of artists includes:
Cliff Moen, pain#er - he has already expressed interest Yes
Char Bauer, glassblower; her studio is on 46/47 south end of town Yes
Barb Pinc, painter, mostly watercolor Yes
Hastings Fiber Arts Guild, weavers, fetters, spinners, lacemakers; they would
participate as a group so they'd only get 1 area Yes
Art Nordstrom, raku pottery, presently he is out of town
The Lathams, wildlife painters
David Geister -although he lives in Prescott, he has painted several Hastings
topics
Lois Ireland-Zwettler, painter; she lives in Oak Ridge Manor
Also extend invitations to some of the artists who have pieces in the City Hall Art
Collections such as Shelly Kranz? Possibly find a woodcarver, a paper artist, a
sculptor who does smaller pieces?
NEXT MEETING: Feb. 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. City Hall , 2"d floor Spiral Room
