HOLMES, CHIEF 115 West 5th Street Hastings, Minnesota 55033-1815 Business Office (651) 480-6150 Fax (651) 480-6170 TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT Mayor Hicks and City Council Members r Mark J. Holmes, Fire Chief~`~r~- February 5, 2007 Declare Excess Property and Authorization to Accept Bids for the Sale of 1971 GMC Pick Up Included in the 2007 Utilities Department budget, approval was given for purchase of a pick-up truck. As a result of that purchase, the Utilities Department will no longer have use for the 2000 Ford currently being used by them. The fire department operates two pick-ups for the purpose of grass/brush type fires. Our oldest is used for the purposes of more difficult and treacherous areas and also as a back-up to our newest. Currently that service is being fulfilled by a 1971 GMC pick-up. Based on age I have concerns regarding the future use of this vehicle. In discussion with the City Administrator Dave Osberg and Public Works Director Tom Montgomery, this would be an excellent extended use of the Utilities Department 2000 Ford pick-u p. If approved, this change would place the 1971 GMC pick-up as excess property and sale would occur through sealed bids or Internet-based bidding. If you should have any questions regarding this issue, please feel free to call me on my cellular phone at 651-775-5545. I will also be attending the February 5, 2007 city council meeting should you have any questions of me at that time. Requested Action: Authorize the transfer of Utilities Department 2000 Ford pick-up to the Fire Department and declare the 1971 GMC pick-up currently in use by the fire department as excess property and authorize the sale of this vehicle through a bid process.
