RESOLUTION #
Resolution of the City Council of the City of Hastings
Seeking Support for Funding for Replacement of the US Highway #61 Bridge
Whereas, The City of Hastings and the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce are
working on a project together seeking to improve the economic vitality of the
community, and in particular the US Highway #61-Vermilion Street Corridor; and
Whereas, The existing US Highway #61 Bridge is a vital component to the
transportation infrastructure of the City of Hastings, and a significant portion of the
eastern Twin Cities Metropolitan Area; and
Whereas, Significant vehicular traffic travels across the US Highway #61 Bridge
on a daily basis, providing a major economic link to the upper Midwest; and
Whereas, Design of the existing bridge causes significant congestion as a result
of the four lanes approaching the bridge from the north and south end, and being forced
to two lanes, thus causing significant backups and accidents to occur frequently; and
Whereas, The US Highway #61 Bridge is an important part of the Red Rock
Transportation Corridor, dedicated to moving people in a safe and efficient manner; and
Whereas, Replacement of the US Highway #61 Bridge has been under
consideration for numerous years, with the most current forecast suggesting replacement
may take place by 2020; and
Now, Therefore be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Hastings
hereby encouraging its Federal and State Legislative Officials to use all of its
resources and influence to encourage replacement of the US Highway #61 Bridge,
and to support any Federal and State funds to allow for replacement of the US
Highway #61 Bridge in a timely manner.
