Schutt, Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal DATE: August 2,2007 SUBJECT: Proposed Adoption of the 2006 Minnesota State Fire Code - Second and Final Reading for Public Hearing Description This proposed ordinance change was introduced at the July 2,2007, City Council meeting. The first reading was held that night. On July 10, 2007, the State of Minnesota adopted the 2006 Minnesota State Fire Code. This is consistent with Minnesota Statutes, Section 299F.011. It is recommended that the City of Hastings stay concurrent with the State of Minnesota and adopt the 2006 Minnesota State Fire Code. Backeround Until July 10, 2007, the State of Minnesota and the City of Hastings operated under the 2000 Minnesota State Fire Code. As a model code developed through a consensus development process, the Minnesota State Fire Code provides jurisdictions with an opportunity to adopt a fire code which is comprehensive, up-to-date and consistent with codes of other jurisdictions. Repealing of the City of Hastings Code 96.01, which currently adopts the 2000 Minnesota State Fire Code. 2. Revising City of Hastings Code 96.01 to adopt the 2006 edition of the Minnesota State Fire Code, regulating and governing the safeguarding of life and property from fire and explosion hazards arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the occupancy of buildings and premises in the City of Hastings; providing for the issuance of permits for hazardous uses or operations.
