DATE: August 2,2007
SUBJECT: Proposed Adoption of the 2006 Minnesota State Fire Code - Second and Final
Reading for Public Hearing
Description
This proposed ordinance change was introduced at the July 2,2007, City Council meeting. The
first reading was held that night.
On July 10, 2007, the State of Minnesota adopted the 2006 Minnesota State Fire Code. This is
consistent with Minnesota Statutes, Section 299F.011. It is recommended that the City of
Hastings stay concurrent with the State of Minnesota and adopt the 2006 Minnesota State Fire
Code.
Backeround
Until July 10, 2007, the State of Minnesota and the City of Hastings operated under the 2000
Minnesota State Fire Code. As a model code developed through a consensus development
process, the Minnesota State Fire Code provides jurisdictions with an opportunity to adopt a fire
code which is comprehensive, up-to-date and consistent with codes of other jurisdictions.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Fire Chief Mark Holmes, on his cell phone
at 651-775-5545 or myself, on my cell phone at 651-775-5547 anytime.
I will be in attendance at the August 6,2007, City Council meeting if you should have any
questions at that time.
