RE: Budget Adjustments

The Information Technology department (IT) is requesting a budget adjustment transfer from salaries and
benefits to the expert & consultant line item and an equipment capital line item. The IT department has
savings in the salaries budget line item due to an unfuifiiled position in 2007. This position has been
difficult to fill this year and it is the hopes of the IT department to begin anew in 2008. Until the position is
filled the savings would be used to hire temporary help from an IT temporary firm, $7,500 is requested for
this and $30,000 to be used to offset the costs of the fiber project started in 2006 and carried over to 2007.
This project is being funded upfront by the City of Hastings and it is possible that other government
agencies may have fiber brought into their buildings or lease fiber space/access from the City. The
agencies would then reimburse the city for a portion of the costs incurred to bring the line through the City.
This was thought to be done in 2007 but since the project is just being completed now for the City of
Hastings the other agencies will be added on in 2008 or later.

Approve the IT Department's budget adjustment
