Re: Request for Unpaid Leave of Absence
Council Action Requested:
Approve an unpaid leave of absence for Karen Bre~j-er, effective December 13, 2007, through on
or about March 1, 2008 depending on FMLA leave available at that time.
Background Information
Police Clerical Karen Brewer has been placed on FMLA for care of a serious medical condition.
FMLA is ,job-protected leave for up to 12 weeks for qualifi-ing employees. Council previously
approved an intermittent unpaid leave of absence in September 2007 as a result of her qualifying
leave and low leave balances and Karen's FMLA leave started with intermittent leave on
September 24, 2007.
Karen continues to qualifi- for FMLA and staffis recommending Council approval of an unpaid
leave of absence through March 1, 2008, the end of her FMLA-eligible leave. All leave accruals
and insurance «~ill cease during her unpaid leave of absence.
