RE: Nick Clare Memorial Run, May 3, 2008
Dear Dave,
The Nick Clare Memorial Run has been taken over by the Athletic Department at the Hastings
Senior High School. Ron and Marie Clare and their family have graciously allowed us to
continue this event in Nick's memory.
Thank you for your support of the past Nick Clare Memorial runs and for bringing the run
request forward to the city council. Will you please put it on the consent agenda as soon as
possible. Proceeds from the run will benefit athletic programs at the high school.
The route for the IOK, SK, and 2K will be the same as last year. The lOK and SK and 2K will
start on Featherstone by the high school. The lOK will proceed North on Pleasant Drive, then
down on the Lock and Dam Road, then up on 2na Street back to Pleasant. It will then turn west
on 4tn St. to General Sieben Dr, then back to Featherstone Road into the North/East entrance of
the high School.
The SK will go from Featherstone to State, then to 3`a St. then River Street, and back up on 4tn
Street to General Sieben Drive and back to Featherstone into the North/East entrance of the high
school. The 2K route will go down General Sieben to Summit Point, then back on Featherstone.
A map is enclosed with the routes for the three run/walks.
We would like Police and/or Police Reserve officers at the following intersections: General
Sieben Dr. & 4tn, Pleasant & 1St, 2aa & Lock & Dam Rd., 1St & County Rd. 42, Pleasant t& 4tn,
River & 2na, Cty. Rd 42 & Pleasant, 2na & River & 2na & Pine St.

Dear Mr. Osberg,
We briefly talked on the phone over a month ago regarding my familys wishes to hold a memorial race in memory of
my brother, Terry Huberty on Saturday, August 9 of this year. I had sent an a-mail late last year which unfortunately
might have been filtered out by your server When we spoke you advised me to send you a letter outlining our needs.
guess the first question is, Who was Terry Huberty? .Terry was a superb athlete who grew up in Hastings. He was
a marathon runner and a nationally recognized champion race walker. It was always one of his hopes to bring a road
race to Hastings. Terry was killed on August 9, 1978 while out on a training run.The following year his family held the
first Terry Huberty Memorial Races that took place annually for the next ten years.
This year, to mark the 30th year of Terry s passing, myself and Terry s other sisters and brothers (our parents are now
deceased) have decided to once again hold the races that were a dream of-his to honor him. The following are addi-
tional specifics.
Terry Huberty Memorial Races
August 9, 2008
I Ok Run at 8:30 am and 2 mile fun run at 9 am (times are tentative)
The race course starts at the Hastings Middle School and then heads out Pine Street and turns up 14th Street. It turns
left on Westview Drive and curves around the the Hastings Country CIub.The 3.1 mile turn-around is on Westview
Drive just past Louis Lane near Pine Street
My family as I ve mentioned, has put this event on some ten times now. We are experienced with what needs to be
done for organizing it and would appreciate any help or advice you and the Staff at The City of Hastings could offer as
well. We know we will need to speak to the School District for use of the Middle School facilities. We will need police
help with blocking off some intersections for runners safety. We will need to use some barricades and pylons from the
Streets Department. We will need to be in contact with other safety personell where needed as well.
We are first asking permission from the city to be able to continue our planning. From there, I would be happy to
meet with you to discuss the other details. We are excited to be able to do this great event once more and thank you
for your help. I can be reached on my cell at 952-261-6302 to discuss details and such.
Sincerely,
`~~
