HomeMy WebLinkAbout20080407 - VI-11Y1-11 Memorandum To: Mayor Hicks and City Councilmembers From: Melanie Mesko Lee Date: Apri13, 2008 Re: Approval of Renewal of Employee Assistance Contract Recommended City Council Action: Approve entering into a contract for renewal of the City's Employee Assistance Program with Midwest EAP. BacltQround• In 2005, after an RFP and interviews with vendors, the City reestablished an employee assistance program and entered into a 3 year agreement with Midwest EAP. At this time, the contract is due for renewal, and staff recommends a 3 year extension of the contract, through 2010. The 2008 rates per employee are slightly lower than what we are currently paying, the 2009 rates are the same as our 2007 rates, and the 2010 rates are slightly higher than what we are currently paying. The average cost per year will be $2,728 and the program covers all regular full and part time employees, all paid-on call firefighters, and their respective family members. This is a budgeted expense. Current utilization of the EAP is higher than national averages, and we have used the EAP for critical incident debriefings, wellness sessions, and as part of the annual safety day program in the spring and the open enrollment period in the fall. If this extension is approved, staff would recommend that the City go though the IZFP process again in late 2009/2010 to assess other EAP options available. If you have any questions, please let me know.
