Recommended City Council Action: Approve 2008-2009 liquor licenses renewals. Sack round: License Renen~als Renewal notices were sent out, and with only a few exceptions, licensed establishments have paid their fees and have returned their paperwork. There are a few establishments that are missing an item or two (a signature or the insurance renewal); they have been notified and this approval is contingent upon receipt of all necessary paperwork. Should the paperwork not be received, the applicant's renewal will not be submitted to the State of Minnesota and their liquor license will expire. A few items of note with regards to the annual renewal: Las Margaritas and Los Jimadores, both owned by the late Hector Castro, have applied for a liquor license transfer, which is currently being processed. Staff expects to bring forward a recommendation for action on the license transfer at the July 7, 2008 Council meeting. In the meantime, the renewal fees have been paid. Papa's, who is closed as a result of a recent fire, is submitting renewal paperwork to retain their liquor license. Restaurants Currently, Hastings can issue fifteen on-sale licenses. Establishments which meet the definition of restaurant, club, theaters, hotels, or bowling centers can be excluded from the total number of on-sale licenses a city can issue. As part of this year's renewal, applicants were asked to provide a copy of their restaurant license, if they have one, to be certain that the City is in compliance with those exemption regulations. The information provided indicates that the City remains in compliance with the number of liquor licenses it can issue. Fifteen of twenty-six on-sale and club licenses meet the exclusion criteria. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hastings that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized and directed to sign this resolution, showing approval of 2008/2009 on-sale, off-sale, 3.2, club and other liquor license renewal applications, upon all required paperwork and fees being submitted.
