Subject: Heritage Preservation Commission Reappointments!
Replacements (4).
REQUEST
The City Council is asked to approve one reappointment to the Heritage Preservation
Commission and advertise for 3 positions:
1. Chris Heliie - Fuli Appointment 1131/08 to 1/31/11
Chris has served on the HPC for two term since 4/21/03.
The City Council is asked to authorize advertising for the following 3 positions:
2. Katherine Sovik-Siemens - Fuil Appointment-1/31/08 to 1/31/11
Kathy was first appointed on 9/16!96 and has served four terms on the HPC. She
would like to be reappointed. Since she has served for more than 3 terms, the
position must be advertised and open to ail citizens:
3. Futl Appointment -1/31/08 to 1/31/11
Bonnie St. James was first appointed on 2/22/05 and has served one term on the
HPC.
4. Partial Appointment - appointment to 1131!10
Julie Hicks was first appointed on 1/16/07 and resigned from the HPC on 1/22/08.
The City Council is asked to accep# her resignation and appoint a citizen to fulfill the
remainder of her term.
Members may be reappoin#ed up to three consecutive terms upon approval of the City
Council without advertising for the position. If a Commissioner wishes to serve past their
third term the position must be advertised to the public.
Chris, Kathy, Bonnie, and Julie have all provided excellen# service to the City, and staff
enthusiastically supports reappointment of Chris Hellie at this time.
REQUESTED ACTION
Reappoint Chris Hellie
Accept the resignation of Julie Hicks
Authorize the advertisement of the commissioner vacancies

HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION
COMMISSION SEEKS APPLICANTS
Residents of Hastings interested in serving on the Commission
may pick up applications at City Hall, 101 E. 4th Street, call
651-480-2381 to have them mailed or download from
www.ci.hastings.mn.us. Applicants must be residents of the
City and have a commitment to the preservation of the
community's architectural heritage. The Commission meets at
7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
Special meetings and committee meetings are called when
necessary. The Commission reviews exterior changes
proposed for designated historic properties, nominates
properties to City Council for designation as historic
properties, and advises the City and property owners on
preservation matters. Training or experience such ashistoric
restoration, history, architecture, landscape architecture,
archaeology, urban studies and planning, real estate or law,
are useful to the Commission's work, but not required.
In addition to the application, interested persons are requested
to write a letter to the Commission describing what they can
contribute and what they hope to accomplish as members of
the HPC.
