Re: Change Order #4, Public Works Office Expansion
Council is requested to approve the enclosed Change Order #4 for the Public
Works office expansion construction. The total for the 14 change order items is $47,930.
One item, #12, accounts for almost $28,000 of the proposed change order and involves
installing ceramic the in the entryway, hallways, janitor closet, and lunchroom instead of
stained concrete. The project specifications were supposed to have included integrally
tinted and polished concrete floors, but instead called for stained concrete floors.
Concerns were raised about the poor appearance of stained concrete floors and their
excessive maintenance requirements. The proposed ceramic tiling was considerably
cheaper that the quote received from the contractor for tinted and polished concrete
floors.
Other large changes include upgrading flashing and roofing materials at the front
entrance to provide better weatherproofing; upgrading the ceiling the to match the the
style that is used through City Hall; and relocating the gas meter from the front of the
building to a more protected location along the side of the building.
The project budget includes the $1,343,000 original bid for building construction
plus $67,150 for contingencies, for a total of $1,410,150. With Change Order #4, the
contract amount has increased to $1,397,459; still within the project's budget.
