Re: Approval of 2008 Wellness Training and Grant Application
Recommended City Council Action:
Approve offering a variety of wellness training opportunities to city employees, and authorize
staff to apply for a grant for reimbursement of eligible wellness costs.
Bachround Information:
The City belongs to the South Central Service Cooperative to purchase our health insurance. The
co-op also offers weIlness and health promotion grant dollars. In the last two years, the City has
leveraged these funds to offer CPR courses, purchase CPR masks, water bottles, mini first aid
kits, and bags for staff.
In 2008, the proposal is to use the available funds ($2,280) to offer stress bails and safety post-it
notes for the spring training day, miniature sunscreens for a summer sun awareness promotion,
and to offset the costs for a speaker to come in and provide mandatory employee training on the
City's sexual harassmendrespectful workplace policy. All of these expenses have been approved
by the grant coordinator and City Council action is needed to formally request reimbursement for
the costs incurred to date.

Grant Available
The City has $2,140 available as part of the 2007 grant program, and the intent is to use those
funds to purchase incentives (first aid kits, pedometers, lunch bags) and some healthy options for
staff to encourage healthy choices.
