SCHUTT, FIRE & EMS DIRECTOR 115 West 5'° Street Hastings, MN 55033-1815 Business Office (651) 480-6150 Fax (651) 480-6170 TO: Honorable Mayor Hicks and City Council Me FROM: Michael T. Schutt, Fire and EMS Directo~~} DATE: July 17, 2008 SUBJECT: Budget Transfer Description: Staff is requesting acceptance of payment, in the amount of $4,301.80, from Old World Industries and a transfer of these funds into the 2008 fire department budget, account # 213-210-2100-6580. Background• On March 5, 2008, the Hastings Fire Department responded to a hazardous material spill on the railroad tracks near Highway 10 and the Mississippi River. The spill was a result of a rail tank car that ruptured and lost its contents of a hazardous product called ethyl glycol. Under Minnesota state law, municipalities are allowed to invoice responsible parties for expenses involved when emergency services are needed at hazardous material incidents. Expenses for fire department services were invoiced at $4,301.80. In the proposed 2009 budget is a request to purchase a fire pumpJmonitor for the department's rescue boat. With the acceptance of payment and authorization of budget transfer, I would propose to off-set the purchase of the fire pump/monitor in the 2008 budget. Requested Action: Staff is recommending accepting the payment, in the amount of $4,301.80, from Old World Industries and a transfer of these funds into the 2008 fire department budget, account # 213-210-2100-6580. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime on my cell phone at 651-775-5547. I will be in attendance at the July 21, 2008, city council meeting if you should have any questions at that time. FIRE SUPPRESSION - FIRE EDUCATION - FIRE PREVENTION - AMBULANCE SERVICE
