HomeMy WebLinkAbout20080818 - VI-08VI-8 MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Dave Osberg, City Administrator DATE: August 14, 2008 SUBJECT: Stepping Out Program Run RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION It is recommended that the City Council take action authorizing the utilization of certain City resources to assist with a SK run for the Stepping Out program, starting in downtown Hastings on the morning of Saturday September 13, 2008. BACKGROUND Staff has enclosed a letter from Mary Hoffinan Fasbender outlining certain details regarding a SK run scheduled for Saturday morning September 13, 2008 starting in downtown Hastings. The Stepping Out program is located in downtown Hastings, a program for challenged adults and young people. While no need to close any roads completely, the City Staff will be asked to set up cones at certain areas to illustrate the route and close a side of the road, and utilize a Patrol Officer to assist with directing traffic and guiding the runners, all for a short period of time. Staff would recommend Dave Osberg and City Council, I am asking for the support of the city to hold a SK (2.6 miles) in the downtown area of Hastings. The Stepping Out program is a workout facility in downtown Hastings that allows handicap individuals to partake in physical fitness. Stepping Out is holding their first annual walk/run as a fundraiser for their gym. I am asking for an ok from the city for closure of one side of the street from Sibley to Tyler on Saturday, September 13t~, 2008 for 30 minutes. We are asking for assistance of one police officer for the corner of 2nd and Sibley for the beginning of the walk. The route of the Sk walk/run is as follows: start at the corner of 2nd and Sibley, take a right and go towards the Post Office, take a left on Tyler and go to the start of the trail on 1St and Tyler, take the trail all the way to the lock and dam parking lot, turn around in the parking lot and take the lock and dam road back up to 2nd take a left down to the finish line at 2nd and Sibley, which is the same place as the start.
