Subject: Tier two Skate Park Equipment
(Equipment over 48" in height)
The City of Hastings has placed all of the skate park equipment in storage. We are currently
investigating how and where we could place a tier 1 skate park with equipment under 48" tall in a
suitable location within our City.
I am seeking authorization from the City Council to declare our tier 2 skate park equipment excess
equipment. This would also allow the Parks and Recreation Department to seek bidders who may
are interested in purchasing this equipment. I am seeking this request now due to the fact that in
my opinion, our tier two equipment still has a good sales value and may not be in our long range
plans as we revisit the skate park issue. The company whom we originally purchased this
equipment from, True Ride, is no longer in business and this development may make it more
challenging to get an accurate assessment of the value of this equipment, but I have contacted
other companies who sell skate park equipment for their opinion as to the value and input.
The proposed sale of the tier two equipment would open up options if no other location is suitable to
possibly reopen the former skate park at Vet's and in addition income generated from a proposed
sale of the tier two equipment could assist the City in preparing an alternate site if a site becomes
available.
The proposed sale of this equipment would be handled in a similar fashion as our artificial turf in
which the buyer has to provide their own means for removal/transportation, hold the City of
Hastings harmless after the pending sale, and the equipment is sold "as is". I would have our legal
council assist me in developing appropriate language for a bid document.
The NRRC and Parks and Recreation Committee of Council agreed with this action.
If you have any questions, I encourage you to bring any questions or issues to my attention.
Thank you!
