Subject: Heritage Preservation Commission- 3 Vacancies
REQUEST
The City Council is asked to approve one reappointment and one new appointment
to the Heritage Preservation Commission:
1. Katherine Sovik-Siemens -reappointment-1/1/08 to 12/31/10
Commissioner Sovik-Siemens has served on the HPC for four terms since 1996..
Since she has been serving for at least 3 terms, the position was advertised'for new
candidates. Only one application was submitted for 3 vacancies. The HPC has
asked that the City Council reappoint Commissioner Sovik-Siemens for another
term.
2. Rita Dahl -Full Appointment -1/1/08 to 12/31/10
Ms. Dahl was the only candidate that applied for one of the three vacancies. The
HPC believes that Ms. Dahl is fully qualified to serve on the HPC and requests that
the City Council appointer her for one three year term on the HPC.
3. Partial term -appointment to 12/31 /9
Julie Hicks was first appointed on 1/16/07 and resigned from the HPC on 1/22/08.
The HPC actively sought additional applicants, but no more applied. The HPC will
consider re-advertising for this position after the first of the year.
The HPC has 9 members with 3 terms expiring every year. These appointments would
have normally been done earlier this year, but were held-off until the code relating to term
limits was amended.

benefit of the public. They are bound to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of
Minnesota, and to impartially carry out the laws of the nation, state, and the City of Hastings and thus foster
