HomeMy WebLinkAbout20081117 - VI-09vl-9 MEMO To: Honorable Mayor & City Council From: Nick Egger -City Engineer Date: October 20, 2008 Re: Water Service Repair Assessment Request - 105E 2nd Street Enclosed for Council approval is a request from Julie Barrows of 105E 2nd Street for the City to pay the cost to repair her water service line and assess this cost back to her property. With similar requests for utility service repair, the City Attorney has prepared an agreement and waiver of assessment appeal for property owners to sign, spelling out the conditions and terms of the assessment and protecting the City from an assessment appeal. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Council is requested to approve Ms. Barrows' request for the City to fund the sewer service repair and assess this cost back to their property under the condition that Ms. Barrows first enter into an assessment agreement with the City. ulie Barrows PO Box 213 Hastings, MN 55033 October 15, 2008 Nick Egger City Engineer City of Hastings 101 4th Street East Hastings, MN 55033 Re: 105 Z°d Street East, Hastings, MN 55033 Dear Nick Egger: The main water line running into my building at the above address burst in September, causing a leak into the basement. John Zgoda, Public Works Superintendent, assessed the problem and recommended Steve Gartzke of Gartzke Construction to perform the repair. Gartzke Construction completed the work and sent the enclosed invoice to me in the amount of $4,314.00. 1 am, like many others now, experiencing financial hardship and t do not have the money to pay Gartzke Construction for their excellent and prompt service. Thus, 1 hereby ask that the City pay Gartzke Construction and transfer the amount owed to the tax roll on the property. I would be grateful for any assistance that the City will provide.
