HomeMy WebLinkAbout20090120 - VI-04 Memorandum Date: 1/14/2009 To: Mayor Hicks & City Councilmembers From: Melanie Mesko Lee RE: YMCA Employee Wellness Program Council Action Requested Approve participating in an Employee Wellness Program with the YMCA. Background Information The YMCA are offering a new employee wellness program, which is offered at no cost to the City as an employer. Employees who become Y members will have the joiners fee waived ($79), 10% of membership fees rebated annually in YMCA credits to be used for YMCA programs and services, a personal fitness consultation and fitness assessment, free towel service ($108 value), and access to YMCA child care and child programs. Employees who are currently members would receive all the same benefits, with the exception of having the joiners fee waived, as that has already been paid. Additionally, the City will receive wellness information and resources to offer training and other services to all employees, regardless of whether they choose to join the Y. The City can define what is considered an employee, and for these purposes, staff recommends that we use the same definition as we use for eligibility for the City’s Employee Assistance Program, which is all regular, full and part-time employees, paid, on-call firefighters, and elected officials. Please let me know if you have any questions about this program 1/14/2009
