SUBJECT: DCC Board of Directors Appointments
RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTIUN
it is recommended that the City Council take action appointing City Councilmember
Mike Slavik as the City's Director on the Dakota Communications Center Board of
Directors, and Mayor Paui Hicks, as the alternate. This is the recommendation from
Mayor Hicks, and would be identical to the 2008 appointments.

with the approach of the New Year, ~ would like to draw your attention to the appointment process for
the Dakota Communications Center Board of Directors.
fn accordance with DCC by-laws, Directors and Alternate Directors are appointed for two year terms.
Seven members are required to appoint inJanuary ofodd-numbered years, while the other f ve members
appoint in January ofeven-numbered years. In 2009, Farmington, Hastings, Inver Grove Heights,
Mendota Heights, Rosemount, South St. Paul and west St. Paul are required to appoint a named elected
official to serve as a Director and to designate another named elected official to serve as their Alternate.
Directors and Alternates may be reappointed at the discretion of the member.
In addition to the members who must appoint Directors and Alternates in January, 2009, Apple Valley,
Burnsville, Dakota County, Eagan and Lakeville may need to make appointments in the event that a
current Director or Alternate is leaving elected office or because of their governing board's appointment
practices.
The current Director for Hastings is Councilmember Michael Slavik and the current alternate is Mayor
Paul Hicks. The Board has approved a meeting schedule of the third Thursday of even numbered months
at 8:00 am atthe DCC.
I would appreciate it if you would include DCC Board appointments on your January, 2009 agenda for
action, folloti7~ed by notification tc the DCC of the action taken.
Please be sure to let me know if you have any questions regarding DCC Board appointment requirements.
