HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-04-1978HASTINGS HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETINGS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4th, 1978 8:00 P.M. The meeting of the Hastings Historical Preservation Commission was called to order at 8:10 P.M. by Florence Peterson. Members Present: Art Groth, Don Anderson, Dick Fuchs, Glenda Schnirring, Florence Petersen, and Susan Dredge. Members Absent: Don Eddy, Hazel Jacobsen, Advisory Members, Representative from Planning Commission and Representative from H.R.A. Election of Chairperson of this Commission was first on the agenda. A motion was made by Glenda Schnirring and seconded by Don Anderson to elect Florence Petersen, motion carried unanimously. Florence Petersen moved and Don Anderson seconded a motion to elect Glenda Schnirring as Vice-Chairperson, motion carried unanimously. Division Chairpersons and committee members were announced as per predetermined. At the present time this Commission is waiting for plans for the preservation and restoration of the buildings selected in Phase I from the Historical Site Survey of 1977. After these have been received the Special Committee will recommend to the City Council one architect from those who have submitted plans. The restoration and preservation of these buildings will be funded through a 50% Federal grand and 25% State grant the balance of the cost will have to be paid for by the individ- uals applying for these grants or from some other independ- ent source. Treasurers Report: A balance was showed of $1,590.00. $1,590 was set aside by the City of Hastings Bicentenial Commission to be used for printing. Ninety dollars came from the sale of the Spiral Bridge Book and 1976 Bicent- enial Calender. Heritage Hall:(Florence Petersen) This is located in the Dakota County Library basement. The materials which have been collected at the present time are not available for public use at this time as they will have to be organized 2 Heritage Hall con't: and copied. It was noted by Petersen that when this process begins there will be a need for more funding. This project will be of great value to the community for both pleasure and learning when it is completed. Tours: (Glenda Schnirring) Guides have been trained and are being trained for tours and that tours are available to groups by contacting the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, a small fee will be charged for this services. On September 30, 1978 there is a tour already scheduled for the Minnesota Historical Society. The Historical Preserv&tion Commission would like the public to be aware of the fact that there is grant money available to anyone for any building which meets the pre-determined standards. Anyone who is interested or has any questions should feel free to contact any member of this Commission for further information or help in attaining these grants. The next meeting is set for Wednesday the 25th of January at 8:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers. Mayor Petersen swore in all members present. The meeting was adjorned.
